East Roanoke River Greenway Extension to Explore Park
The East Roanoke River Greenway is currently under development and construction in Explore Park.
While Explore Park remains open to visitors for hiking, biking, camping, Twin Creeks Brewpub and passive recreation, Rutrough Point and all riverfront access are closed to allow for the safe construction of the Roanoke River Greenway.
Phase 2 construction will take place through spring 2026, resulting in temporary access closures to the Roanoke River, trails and Rutrough Point until construction is complete.
- Phase 1 – Rutrough Road to Explore Park (1.7 miles)
- Phase 2 – Inside Explore Park along Roanoke River (1.4 miles)
Upon completion, the East Roanoke River Greenway will span nearly 4-miles and serve as the eastern terminus of the Roanoke River Greenway. The new greenway will provide more recreation and river access opportunities to park visitors.
