    Chakras are an ancient system of identifying energy centers within the body. Each corresponds to an aspect of our outer and inner lives. Chakra Dance is a well-being practice using flowing and dynamic movements, a series of moving meditations. If you like yoga, but aren’t sure about the more challenging poses, if you want to meditate, but can’t sit still for more than a few minutes then chakra dance may be for you! All you need is a water bottle, comfortable clothing, and to be prepared to move/dance barefoot or in yoga socks. Instructor: Patricia Placona

    Welcome spring and summer with a bouquet that never wilts! Learn how to make a variety of realistic flowers using different types of paper.     Now that your dog has learned some good manners, the next step is to apply those manners to real life situations while addressing common behavior problems like jumping on guests, door-dashing, pulling on the leash, not coming when called, etc. Behaviors taught include stay, place, leave it, heel, touch tag, and more. Dogs will be taught to respond to both verbal and non-verbal cues. Prerequisite: Graduation from our Beginner Obedience course or permission from High Hopes.

    Have you always wanted to paint but think you aren't equipped with the talent? Take a class with Ed Gowen and amaze yourself, your family and your friends with your masterpiece! First time painters are welcome and no experience is required! Ed will take you step-by-step through a painting project with entertaining demonstrations as well as personal coaching. Class projects last for a day (10: 00 - 3:30) and may include the popular methods of Bob Ross, Robert Warren, Gary Jenkins and at times, Ed’s own techniques as well. So bring a roll of paper towels and settle in for a day of challenging and relaxing fun! All other supplies are included! Participants under age 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

    Want a dog who listens better? In this basic training course, dog parents will learn how to best communicate with their dogs in order to teach them good manners. Positive reinforcement training methods are used to teach the following behaviors: touch, look, sit, down, stand, come, settle, wait, take it, loose-leash walking, plus more. Other topics include parent separation, agility exercises, impulse control, and canine communication. Dogs must complete either Puppy Kindergarten or be at least 6 months old.     The single most important (and fun) thing you can do for your puppy? Puppy Kindergarten!! For puppies between 10-24 weeks old, socialization with other puppies and people is crucial in order to help them become social, well-balanced dogs. While making lots of friends during off-leash playtime, your puppy will gain confidence by participating in activities and learning basic commands. Discussions for puppy parents include puppy development, house-training, destructive chewing, and play-biting. Six week course taught by High Hopes Dog Training.

    The Spring Hollow Reservoir holds 3.2 billion gallons of water and is used as an important drinking water source, but this protected space also serves as a haven for wildlife and natural beauty. Experience this watershed that is generally closed to the public with our partners from the Western Virginia Water Authority. We will begin with a five mile interpretive hike around the reservoir—including the opportunity to cross over the 990 foot long dam. Afterwards, we will tour the Spring Hollow Water Treatment Facility and learn more about our drinking water’s journey from the Roanoke River to the faucet. Please pack a lunch for the hike and a water bottle. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

    Dr. Kevin Kelleher, author of “Tenkara: Radically Simple Fly Fishing” will present this exciting and informative workshop. Workshop participants will compare traditional fly fishing to the Tenkara Japanese rods and methods: includes casting, strategies and tips, locating fish, and a mini fly tying demo. Participants will also get an introduction to aquatic insect live cycles - macro-invertebrates and the importance of water quality. Rods and reels will be provided or bring your own. Workshop will include time on the Roanoke River. Pre-registration required.

There is an annual sign-up fee for Kinderdance® of $30 to be paid each year upon starting classes. Choose the fee with $30 added to it to pay your sign-up fee when first registering on or after September 2019. Each month following, you will no longer need to pay the sign-up fee. Instruction provided by Kinderdance® staff. All dancers will be given their class uniform and proper footwear on the first day of class.

    Indoor Soccer, Basketball and Indoor T-Ball! For the beginner athlete! This program will center on learning the beginning skills of each sport and good sportsmanship in a non-competitive, fun environment. Kids have a chance to learn the fundamentals of soccer through kicking, passing, dribbling and fun skill drills. Kids will learn basketball through passing, dribbling, shooting and fun skill drills. In T-ball they will learn skills to help with throwing and hitting the ball off of a tee with drills and running the bases. This skill development program will run for 9 weeks, the first three weeks will be soccer, then three weeks of basketball and end with t-ball. By the third week of each skill, we will put it all together for them to play in a group with teams. This program is introductory of each sport so therefore formalized games with teams will only be introduced and not competitive. Each player will receive a t-shirt, trophy and team picture at the end of the program.

    Celebrate your child's independence in the water. This is the first class that we offer that have children in the water without a caregiver. Your child may be a beginner or already comfortable in the water. Regardless, they will learn to float, kick and become proficient with arm strokes. Rolling over and treading water will be introduced. Submerging is a big part of this class since swimming requires being able to put your face in the water! If they are more advanced they will be expected to swim more independently and with less support from the instructor.

In addition, they will participate in a safety lesson each lesson that will encourage them to be safe around all aquatic environments.     Our swimmers continue to build on the basic skills learned in Level 1 in the Level 2 class. The student will become more confident and be able to swim short distances by themselves. Students in this class should be very comfortable going under the water. Emphasis in this class is on learning to float without support, alternating arms and leg actions on front and back along with rotary breathing. Safety lessons are ever present in order to ensure our participant's safety around all water environments. Fun is not forgotten either!

    Now you're really a swimmer! Swimmers in this class are very confident and comfortable in the water. All strokes are introduced and by the time they have completed both levels, they will be able to swim at least 25 yards of all six strokes. When a participant passes Level 3 they will have achieved basic water competency skills according to the new American Red Cross standards. Safety lessons become more in depth and cover more topics.

    Taekwondo classes at Green Ridge are designed to teach martial arts and fitness in a structured but fun environment. We help kids develop a focused mind, a coordinated body, a courteous nature, and a positive attitude. Kids, teens, and adults alike will improve fitness and coordination while learning self-defense skills that help build confidence and focus. Students can sign up individually or have the whole family try together. Fee is per person. Instructors Cameron and Sarah Starnes have years of experience and are 2nd degree blackbelts. No uniform required-wear comfortable clothes. In addition to martial arts instruction, emphasized will be the five tenets of taekwondo: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, and indomitable spirit.
