Event Overview

The Annual Valentine’s Dinner Dance started in 1985, and was created as a ‘second prom’ for our guests who were not included in their prom. The first Dance had about 25 people in attendance.  It has since grown to be THE event of the year, serving over 200 people with a variety of abilities and their care givers.  

The Dance is held at Hotel Roanoke and starts off with a delicious 3 course dinner. Following this the King and Queen of Hearts are crowned and DJ David Woodson cranks the music and opens up the dance floor. Attendees also get the opportunity to have the their photo taken at the onsite photo booth provided by Unique Memories and Gifts. This is truly a night you won't want to miss. 

Because this is a community based event, Tickets can be purchased not only for individuals with disabilities, but for their caregivers as well!

The 40th Annual Valentine's Dinner Dance 
Monday February 9, 2026 | 5:30-9:00 PM
Hotel Roanoke Ballroom

Ticket purchase includes dinner, dessert, dancing, Photo booth and a favor that guest can take home.  Registration closes two weeks before the event. Payment is due at time of registration.  No payments will be taken at the door.

Refunds are only if a guest canceled two weeks before the Dance, or had a medical emergency.  If you are not able to attend the Dance, please let us know as soon as possible as there is typically a wait list for this event.

MORE INFORMATION

GROUPS

We love group homes or agencies who attend the Dance.  If a group home is sending three or more participants, a staff member must attend with them. To make things easier for groups to attend, you can fill out one registration form for your agency.  When completing the form, please include the residency of the participant as where they live, Not the residency of the agency. When completing the residency for the staff, please use the residency of the agency. Also, for staff, please register them as Staff #1, #2, etc.  Using staff names causes difficulty when printing tickets, if a staff is unable to attend on the night.

Group tables are available.  If you want to reserve a table for your group, please call and let us know.  If you do not have eight guests, other guest will be seated at your table.

MEALS

Hotel Roanoke chooses an amazing meal for our event each year.  Guests who need a special meal due to dietary restrictions, please complete it on your registration form, or call and let us know.  Special diet does not mean choosing from a menu.  Gluten free, vegetarian, or soft meal accommodations are available.

Dance tickets for guests who are not able to dine, may purchase a ticket for $10.These tickets are only available for participants whose dietary needs we are unable to meet.   All other guests must purchase a full price ticket. When seated, please let the server know that the guest will not be eating, and is just there to dance.

Sugar free desserts - The amazing cupcakes for dessert include sugar free and no red dye.  Please check on your registration form if sugar free is needed.

TICKETS

Tickets will be mailed to all guests who are registered.  Please bring your ticket to ensure a smooth check-in process.  Tickets are non – transferable.

DOOR PRIZES

Door prizes are donations TRS receives and are given randomly to participants who have registered for the dance. Door prizes are not intended for care givers, and are given out during the dance breaks throughout the night.  If you are interested in donating towards the Door Prizes, please contact Devon at DBurnette@RoanokeCountyVA.gov or 540-777-6358

WAIT LIST

Once the Dance is full, TRS will keep a wait list.  If a guest cancels, those on the wait list will be contacted as soon as possible.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is provided by TRS on a limited bases. We ask that anyone who can provide their own, do so. Transportation is primarily for guests who live independently. Transportation typically fills up in the first two weeks of registration. If you need transportation, register early.

Transportation is currently FULL for the 2024 Valentine's Dance. Call 540-772-7529 ext. 2 for a transportation waitlist.

PARKING

Accessible drop off is available at the ballroom entrance at Hotel Roanoke. The accessible parking at Hotel Roanoke is reserved for Roanoke County transportation. Vehicles may be parked at the First Baptist Church parking area on North Jefferson Street. Parking for Hotel Roanoke is also located along Commonwealth Ave and North Jefferson Street. Additional parking is located on Norfolk Ave using the Market Square Walkway from Wachovia Plaza or at the Higher Education Building garage. Paid parking is available at the main entrance of the hotel.
